Rodrigo Atria
Born in Santiago, on June 1, 1952. Journalist, political scientist, and writer. As a journalist in Spain, he worked at Radio-Television Española in 1975 (where he stayed for seven years); also at Diario de Barcelona in 1978 and at El Noticiero Universal in 1981, in addition to collaborations with other print media: the evening newspaper Tele-Express (Barcelona) and the magazine Opinión (Madrid).
In Chile, he was part of the journalistic team of APSI magazine (1982-1985) and participated in the creation of the three volumes that make up the work Chile: la memoria prohibida (1982-1987). In his training as a political scientist, he completed, between 1988 and 1990, a Master in Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana (USA), which he extended with doctoral studies to the degree of PhD (c) by the same university.
In 1991, after returning from the United States, he joined the General Secretariat of the Presidency and, in 1995, joined the civil advisory team at the Ministry of Defense. Between 1998 and 2000 he was Attaché to the Embassy of Chile in Argentina and in 2000 he rejoined the Ministry of Defense as a member of the Minister's Advisory Committee.
In 2003 he obtained a Certificate for the Managing Defence in a Democracy course taught by the Royal Military College of Science of the United Kingdom. In 2005 he completed a Master in International Studies at King’s College, University of London, as well as the annual course of the Royal College of Defence Studies also in the United Kingdom.
He published several reports in the collection Nosotros, los chilenos by Editorial Quimantú. In 1978 he published in Spain the book Siete cuentos (children's stories) and, in 1982, a first novel: La Despedida. In 1995, his second novel, La hija del mercader de Venecia, appeared in Chile, published by Planeta. This text was followed by Coplas de sangre, a novel that was a finalist in the Planeta Prize of Argentina in 1998 and was published by Planeta Argentina and Planeta Chile. In 2000 he published the book of poems Brumario and in 2005 appeared La fácil hermosura del olvido (stories, LOM), and Es tiempo ya (chronicle or memoir, Random House).
Clara en la noche, Muriel en la aurora, won the Revista de Libros Prize from El Mercurio in 2021 and appears in 2022, his new novel No reina el mal en el corazón de la ballena (Zuramerica Ediciones).
