Christopher Bickerton
Christopher J. Bickerton is a British political scientist specialized in contemporary European politics. He is a professor in the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) at the University of Cambridge and a member of Queens' College. He earned his PhD in International Relations from the University of Oxford and has taught at institutions such as the University of Amsterdam and Sciences Po in Paris. His research focuses on European integration, the transformation of states, and the dynamics of sovereignty in modern democracies. Additionally, he has collaborated with media outlets like The Guardian, The New York Times, and Le Monde Diplomatique.

Among his most notable works are European Union Foreign Policy: From Effectiveness to Functionality (2011), European Integration: From Nation-States to Member States (2012), which received the best book award from the University Association of Contemporary European Studies, The European Union: A Citizen’s Guide (2016), and Technopopulism: The New Logic of Democratic Politics (2021), co-written with Carlo Invernizzi Accetti. The latter was translated into Spanish as Tecnopopulismo: Cómo la apelación al pueblo y al saber experto erosionan la democracia (2024). His publications address issues of comparative politics, democratic theory, and European political economy.
