Synopsis "Wind: The Journey of my Life "

On August 16th, 2016 Santiago Lange amazed the sporting world when he and his teammate Cecilia Carranza won the gold medal in sailing at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. At that time he was 54 years old, it was his sixth Olympic participation and he fought against unbelievable obstacles. His victory was an incomparable demonstration of his will to fight - not even one year after he had to undergo surgery because of lung cancer. Santiago Lange gave the world of sailing an unforgettable moment of glory. But how did he manage to get back on his feet in such a short time, to train without rest and to take part at the Olympic Games again? And why did he fight when his body, friends and family thought it was time to stop? Nothing gives me more joy of life and adrenaline than the challenge of sport. When I'm on the water, my thoughts rest. Time stands still. I feel the wave, I feel the wind turning. The tension of the boat tells me that I have to change course or trim. I react, the boat gets faster and everything else doesn't exist anymore. It's always been like that. Santiago Lange

In his distinguished sports career, Lange holds the most coveted award: being the Argentine athlete with the most appearances at the Olympic Games, with seven. He first qualified in Seoul 1988 and since then has competed in every edition of the Games, except in Barcelona 1992 and London 2012
He won consecutive bronze medals in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, with Carlos Espínola, in the Tornado class, and was covered in glory in Rio 2016, when he became Olympic champion alongside Cecilia Carranza in Nacra 17
In his Olympic debut at Seoul 1988, he achieved a ninth place in the Soiling class, along with Pedro Ferrero and Raúl Lena. In Atlanta 1996 he repeated the same position, but in the Laser class, while in Sydney 2000 he was tenth in the Tornado class, with Mariano Parada
He said goodbye to the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020, where he finished seventh in Nacra 17, paired with Carranza for the last time
At the Pan American Games, Lange won two silver medals: the first in Michigan City 1987, with Miguel Saubidet, in the Snipe Class, and the second in Mar del Plata 1995, in the Laser Class
In 1976, at the age of 15, he became Argentine champion in the Optimist Class, a title he won 12 more times in different categories. He was six times South American champion in various categories, three times world champion of the Snipe Class (1985, 1993, and 1999), world champion (2004) and runner-up (2006) in Tornado Class. He won the Princess Sofia Trophy on two occasions (1986 and 1987) and the European Championship in the Tornado Class (2002)
As a naval architect, he has designed Optimist sailboats, which began to be built in 1987 and were winners of the World Cup on seven occasions.
