Synopsis "Umwandlung von Altkarton zu biologisch abbaubarem Polymer (P3HB) (in German)"

Laut der US-Umweltschutzbehörde EPA "verursachen gewerbliche Einrichtungen einen Gro teil der geschätzten 31,4 Millionen Tonnen Wellpappe, die jedes Jahr entsorgt werden". Sobald diese Pappe in den Müll oder in die Recyclingtonne gelangt, wird sie als alte Wellpappe oder OCC (Old Corrugated Cardboard) bezeichnet. Im Jahr 2008 wurden schätzungsweise 77 % der Pappkartons recycelt oder wiederverwendet. Allerdings werden die Fasern, aus denen Pappe besteht, mit jeder Zellstoffaufbereitung kürzer, was bedeutet, dass Pappe nur vier bis fünf Mal recycelt werden kann, bevor sie zerfällt. Die dabei anfallende Altpappe landet schlie lich im Siedlungsabfall (MSW). Wir schlagen ein effizientes Verfahren vor, um Altpappe in wertschöpfende, umweltfreundliche und biologisch abbaubare Polymere wie Polyhydroxybutanoat (PHB) umzuwandeln. Die Arbeit umfasst (i) ein optimiertes Vorbehandlungsverfahren für Altpappe, (ii) die enzymatische Hydrolyse zur Umwandlung von Altpappe in Glukose und (iii) die Biosynthese und Charakterisierung von PHB.
