Little Dorothy had come to Aunt Em as an orphan.

ንእሽቶ ዶሮቲ ዘኽታም ኮይና ናብ ኣኮይ ኤም መጺኣ ነይራ።

When Dorothy first came her laughter startled Aunt Em.

ዶሮታ ንመጀመርታ ግዜ ምስ መጸት ሰሓቓ ንኣኮታ ኤም ኣሰንበዳ።

Dorothy's voice was full of happiness and wonder.

ድምጺ ዶሮታ ብሓጎስን ምግራምን ዝመልኦ ነበረ።

She screamed when Dorothy's voice reached her ears.

ድምጺ ዶሮቲ ኣብ እዝና ምስ በጽሐ ኣውያት ኣውጽአት።

She pressed her hand upon her heart to calm herself.

ንነብሳ ንምህዳእ ኢዳ ኣብ ልባ ጸቐጠት።

And she looked at the little girl with wonder.

ነታ ንእሽቶ ጓል ድማ ብግርማ ጠመተታ።

"How could this little girl find anything to laugh at?"

"እዛ ንእሽቶ ጓል ከመይ ጌራ እያ ዝስሕቐላ ነገር ክትረክብ ዝኸኣለት?"
