It explains the difference between simple sadness and depression as well as the stigma attached. Most importantly, it lets children know that it is not their fault nor is it their job to fix things or make it better. The Sticky Switch is written to be easy to read, as well as open and honest without ever talking down to the child. It encourages asking questions and starting a dialogue so our next generation won't treat mental illness like that dirty secret they cannot talk about.
