Alfred C. Stepan (1936–2017) fue un destacado politólogo estadounidense, reconocido por sus aportes al estudio de la democracia, el autoritarismo y las transiciones políticas. Fue profesor en la Universidad de Columbia y en la Universidad de Yale, además de ocupar cargos académicos en Harvard. Su trabajo se centró especialmente en América Latina, Europa del Este y el mundo islámico.
