Mit der 19. und 20. Dynastie - der Ramessidenzeit (ca. 1290-1070 v. Chr.) - steht eine bedeutende Kulturepoche Altägyptens im Fokus der Betrachtung. Eingerahmt von Echnatons Amarnazeit und der sogenannten "Ära der Wiedergeburt" am Übergang zur Dritten Zwischenzeit ist sie durch eine au ergewöhnliche intellektuelle und kulturelle Produktivität geprägt sowie durch tiefgreifende politische, religiöse und gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen. Die 18 in diesem Band publizierten Aufsätze sind das Ergebnis der internationalen Tagung "The Ramesside Period in Egypt", die im Juni 2015 in Heidelberg stattfand und den geladenen Fachvertreterinnen und -vertretern ein Forum bot, ihre Forschungsergebnisse zu verschiedenen Phänomenen der Ramessidenzeit auszutauschen und zu diskutieren. Anhand diverser Quellengruppen und aus jeweils unterschiedlicher Forschungsperspektive werden in den einzelnen Beiträgen Aspekte der Architektur und Dekoration von Gräbern und Tempeln, Kunst und Religion, Sprache und Literatur sowie der Politik-, Wirtschafts- und Sozialgeschichte dieser dynamischen Epoche untersucht.
