Synopsis "The Ordering of Time: Meditations on the History of Philosophy"

What is the history of philosophy? What exactly is this the history of and how is that history to be understood in relationship to philosophy itself? Can philosophy's history, on any of a number of diverse descriptions, ever be said in its own right to constitute a unique and genuine source of philosophical wisdom or insight?George Lucas sweeps aside the constraints of traditional methodological and cultural boundaries to reflect broadly on a variety of answers to these questions, as posed by many of the major philosophical figures of the past century. Inviting a re-consideration of the work of scholars as diverse as Alasdair MacIntyre, Leo Strauss, Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, Richard Rorty, Hans-Georg Gadamer, Bertrand Russell, Arthur Danto, Martha Nussbaum, Paul Ricoeur, Charles Taylor, Keith Lehrer and Jerome Schneewind, Lucas ranges widely over the history of philosophy itself in search of original, probing answers to these profound and perennial issues.

George Lucas is an influential American director, producer, and screenwriter, born on May 14, 1944, in Modesto, California. He is globally known for creating the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, fundamental pillars of modern cinema.

He studied cinematography at the University of Southern California (USC), where he developed his talent for visual storytelling. His first major success was American Graffiti (1973), but it was in 1977 when he revolutionized cinema with Star Wars (later renamed Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope). The film combined innovative special effects with an epic narrative, starting one of the most successful sagas of all time.

Lucas founded Lucasfilm, a key company in the development of cinematic technologies, such as digital special effects and surround sound. In 1981, together with Steven Spielberg, he created Indiana Jones, another iconic film series.

In 2012, he sold Lucasfilm to The Walt Disney Company, marking a new stage for his sagas. Although he retired from active directing, he remains an influential figure in the industry. Lucas is also known for his philanthropy in education and art.
