His book features facts and photographs of the ships on which he sailed and the camps where he was based. In Skegness he was stationed at a former Butlin's holiday camp that the Navy had taken over for training and induction purposes. Later he was moved to Pwllheli in North Wales, which after the war became another Billy Butlin's holiday camp. His radar training began on the Isle of Man and continued on the outskirts of Farham. The main part of the book describes his operational duties and recreational time based at Trincomalee in Ceylon. The book is of interest to anyone researching naval history as it provides facts and figures of the ships, bases and personnel that the author encountered. Genealogists researching ancestors who were also in the Royal Navy at that time may also find the descriptions of everyday life of particular interest.
