This volume collects for the first time in a single volume all of Kant's writings on religion and rational theology. These works were written during a period of conflict between Kant and the Prussian authorities over his religious teachings. The historical context and progression of this conflict are charted in the general introduction to the volume and in the translators' introductions to particular texts. All the translations are new with the exception of The Conflict of the Faculties, where the translation has been revised and redited to conform to the guidelines of the Cambridge Edition.

Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) was a German philosopher and one of the most influential figures in modern philosophy. His thinking laid the foundations of transcendental idealism, focused on the relationship between experience and reason. Among his most important works is Critique of Pure Reason (1781), where he analyzes the limits of human knowledge. He also wrote Critique of Practical Reason (1788), focused on morality, and Critique of Judgment (1790), which addresses aesthetics and teleology.

Additionally, in Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals (1785), he presented his famous theory of the categorical imperative, the cornerstone of his ethics. His ideas on enlightenment, morality, and epistemology continue to influence philosophy and social sciences.
