As the price of gold significantly increased in the1970s, alternative cheaper cobalt-chromium alloys came appeared on the dental market. Today cobalt-chromium alloys are widely used in prosthetic dentistry for fabrication of removable partial dentures and some fixed prosthetic appliances. Advantages of using these dental alloys for casting prosthetic appliances are their low weight and good mechanical properties and also resistance to corrosion. Titanium is extensively used in dental because of its superior biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, desirable mechanical properties and relatively low cost.
