Synopsis "Oceans Between Us. Shanghaied in the Rose City!"

Based on True Events, This is a Historical Fiction Novel set in late 19th century involving a young family that moves from Utah to Portland, Oregon for opportunities during the industrial revolution. Portland, Oregon was booming during those days, and there was a shortage of workers. Jacob, a skilled Carpenter, should have no problem finding work. He gets Shanghaied! His wife desperately searches for him but never finds out what happens to him. Out of desperation, she marries a young lawyer, but never forgets about Jacob. After 20 years, Jacob returns home to a world that has changed. His baby son now has child of his own.
The story describes his life enslaved aboard a merchant ship during those times. The story of Crimps, boarding house owners, police, all in on it. "Bunko" Kelly who wrapped up a life size Indian from a cigar store in a blanket, and passed it off as a drunk sailor to get paid. Ana Gomes, sewed rats in the clothing of her dead victims to make them look alive. The underground network of tunnels below the City of Portland, Oregon were used to transport victims to waiting ships on the waterfront. This novel explores a historical dark time in America's history full of corruption and mayhem greedily searching for the almighty dollar. The end shows a charming end, followed by statistics of how prevalent the problem was, and modern facts of present day human trafficking. This novel must be a movie!
