In ihrem Buch "The Knowledge We Have Lost in Information: The History of Information in Modern Economics" beschäftigen sich Philip Mirowski und Edward Nik-Khah mit der Rolle von Informationen in der Wirtschaftsgeschichte des 20 und 21 Jahrhunderts, wobei sie einen gro en Fokus auf die neoliberale Entwicklung des Wirtschaftsberufs in der Nachkriegszeit legen. Das 2017 von Oxford University Press vertriebene Werk ist das siebte Buch Mirowskis, welcher seit über 30 Jahren am Lehrstuhl für Wirtschaftswissenschaften und Geschichte und Philosophie der Wissenschaften an der University of Notre Dame tätig ist. Auch Edward Nik-Khah ist Wirtschaftswissenschaftler und am Lehrstuhl für Ökonomie und Business Administration am Roanoke College in Virginia tätig. Er beschäftigt sich, ähnlich wie Mirowski, in seinen aktuellen Publikationen vorwiegend mit Neoliberalismus. Die Idee für das Buch kam den beiden, nachdem sie vom Institute for New Economic Thinking dazu eingeladen wurden, einen kurzen Vortrag über die Wirtschaftsgeschichte des 20 Jahrhunderts zu halten. Sie hatten zwar beide schon zu dem Thema publiziert, verfolgten beim Verfassen ihres neuen Buches jedoch die Intention, die Geschichte der Informationen in der modernen Ökonomie möglichst gebündelt und instruktiv zu vermitteln, wobei vor allem die "Neoliberalisierung" des wirtschaftlichen Berufs und des Marktverständnisses eine zentrale Rolle einnimmt.
