Synopsis "My War Diary: From Normandy Into Hitler's Reich"

This book is the daily diary of a British Royal Army Service Corps Officer serving with the 29th Armoured Brigade, and the famed 11th Armoured Division between June 1944 and May 1945. His roles were to co-ordinate and provide Forward Ammunition Points together with fuel and other supplies for the Tanks and Artillery of the frontline units fighting the German Wermacht and the Waffen SS from France, through Holland and Belgium and into the heart of Nazi Germany. And to command an independent unit of men and their vehicles to get the job done, and to bring these men safely through the war. He experiences periods of intense activity, and times of desperation and demoralising boredom as he shares that longing with so many of his comrades for the war to end and to be able to return home to his loved ones in peace. There are times of fear, and philosophical contemplation, but also of fun and laughter, the excitement of liberation, and the sheer hell of the mud, the cold, the blood and death all around him. This is a gripping and exciting story of determination and courage under fire, beautifully illustrated with the author's own photographs and sketches. This is a compelling read.
