Laureen ODonnell trabaja en la Casa de Acogida para Mujeres de Glasgow, donde conoce a Anne Harris, una chica que llega al centro con doscostillas rotas y en plena batalla contra el alcoholismo. Denise Mina, born in 1966 in East Kilbride, Scotland, is a distinguished writer of crime novels, playwright, and comic book scriptwriter. Her work falls within the genre of crime fiction, with a particular focus on the subgenre known as "Tartan Noir". Among her most recognized works is the Garnethill trilogy, consisting of "Garnethill" (1998), "Exile" (2000), and "Resolution" (2001). Another notable series features Patricia "Paddy" Meehan, including titles such as "The Field of Blood" (2005) and "The Dead Hour" (2006).

Mina has also created the Alex Morrow series, introduced in "Still Midnight" (2009), followed by "The End of the Wasp Season" (2010) and "Gods and Beasts" (2012). Her novel "The Long Drop" (2017) received the McIlvanney Prize for Scottish Crime Book of the Year and the Gordon Burn Prize. Additionally, she has ventured into the comic world, writing for the "Hellblazer" series and adapting Stieg Larsson's "Millennium" trilogy into graphic novel format. Denise Mina has been awarded prizes such as the John Creasey Dagger in 1998 for "Garnethill" and the Theakston's Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award in 2012 for "The End of the Wasp Season".
