Uno de ellos (un inglés llamado Milton) me hizo perder una batalla indefinida que nunca llegó a realizarse. Otro (un alemán llamado Goethe) me dio el papel de alcahuete en una tragedia de medio pelo. Así se expresa el Diablo en el relato que Fernando Pessoa ideó para contradecir los diversos mitosliterarios y religiososque se enredan en torno a tan prolífica figura. Audaz y siempre brillante, Pessoa recrea, en este libro que presentamos por vez primera traducido al español, un diálogo jugoso entre Satán y María, una mujer cualquieraesposa corriente embarazada de pocos mesesque asiste perpleja a la aparición de este heterodoxo Fausto pessoano.

Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935) was a Portuguese poet, writer, and philosopher, considered one of the most prominent literary figures of the 20th century. Born in Lisbon, he developed a prolific and complex literary work, characterized by the creation of heteronyms, literary personalities with their own biographies and styles. In addition to his literary production, he worked as a translator and editor, and was a profound connoisseur of philosophy and esotericism.

Among his most notable works are "The Book of Disquiet" (1982), a compilation of fragments that explore introspection and melancholy; "Message" (1934), a poetic work that celebrates the history and identity of Portugal; and "The Anarchist Banker" (1922), a philosophical essay that addresses the contradiction between anarchism and capitalism. These works have been fundamental in Portuguese and world literature, reflecting the depth and complexity of Pessoa's thought.
