El título podría inducir a pensar dos cosas: - que ha sido escrito después del 11-S - que el terrorismo está referido a los países que EE.UU. ha señalado como terroristas. Sin embargo, nada de ello es cierto: - el libro fue escrito mucho antes del 11-S - EE.UU., en muchos y largos tramos de su historia reciente, ha ejercido un terrorismo de Estado que aquí se describe con sus detalles y sus secuelas. Esto demuestra, con indiscutible transparencia, que el término ni es de hoy ni se aplica exclusivamente a quienes han sido declarados partícipes del "eje del mal". El terrorismo de Estado -ironía de la historia- ha sido sistemáticamente ejercido por EE.UU. en los más diversos lugares del mundo, en muy variadas épocas, con muy sofisticados medios, con trágicos resultados humanos y con una muy discutible rentabilidad política. El terrorismo, por tanto, ni nace ni tiene su máxima expresión en el 11-S. Noam Chomsky (born in 1928) is an American linguist, philosopher, and political activist, considered one of the most influential intellectual figures of the 20th century. He revolutionized linguistics with his theory of generative grammar, introduced in Syntactic Structures (1957), and further developed in Aspects of the Theory of Syntax (1965). His approach transformed the study of language, linking it to cognition and the human mind. In 2019, he was awarded the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Humanities for his exceptional contributions to the study of human language.

In addition to his work in linguistics, Chomsky is known for his critique of the media and US foreign policy. Along with Edward S. Herman, he co-wrote Manufacturing Consent (1988), where they present the model of media propaganda. Other notable works include Hegemony or Survival (2003), which analyzes US foreign policy, and Reflections on Language (1975), where he defends a rationalist perspective on human nature. His output spans political essays, linguistics, and philosophy, consolidating his legacy as a critical and multidisciplinary thinker.
