Synopsis "hplc methods for recently approved pharmaceuticals"

this book presents abstracts of hplc methods for drugs that are not featured in the original set of lunns 4-volume hplc methods for pharmaceutical analysis (wiley, 1997). the book contains abstracts for some older drugs because no hplc method had then been published or because the drugs had not been approved at that time.  the book covers the literature through the end of 2003. for each compound, various techniques are described in sufficient detail so the analyst can replicate the procedure without the original publication. this information is often spread out amongst varied sources, forcing the analyst to waste valuable time looking up the needed materials. although the universal penetration of computers has led to readily available laboratory-based searches of the literature, this resource is not exploited as much as it might be.  one reason for this reluctance is that a computer search merely produces a listing of possibly relevant references.  tedious and time-consuming searches in the library are necessary to find the most relevant reference that can be turned into a practical analytical procedure in the laboratory. the reference finally chosen will depend on the individual circumstances such as the matrix in which the drug is present and availability of equipment.  this book circumvents this lengthy process by providing abstracted and evaluated procedures for the analysis of each drug. the analyst can rapidly identify a relevant procedure and put it into practice without having to consult the original literature.  many factors may be important when choosing an analytical procedure.  accordingly, features of the analytical procedures such as analytical matrix, sensitivity, mode of detection, other compounds that interfere with the analysis, and other drugs that may be determined at the same time are noted.
