María del Carmen Méndez Santos is a professor in the Department of Spanish Philology at the University of Alicante, specialized in applied linguistics and gender studies. Her academic work focuses on the intersection between language, identity, and affectivity, exploring how linguistic expressions shape sex-affective relationships. She has participated in interdisciplinary projects addressing issues such as communication in romantic contexts and the representation of desire in discourse.
In 2022, she co-edited with María del Mar Galindo Merino the collective work The Linguistics of Love: from Passion to Word, published by Pie de Página. This volume gathers contributions from 22 specialists who analyze, from various disciplines, the relationship between language and love, addressing topics such as communication in couples, body language in seduction, and the metaphors of love in different cultures.
