El presente volumen, que fue publicado por vez primera en 1908 bajo el título de A Set of Six, reúne seis excelentes y muy conradianas novelas cortas:Gaspar Ruiz, El delator, La bestia, Un anarquista, El duelo y El conde.Gaspar Ruiz, el relato que da nombre al conjunto, no es solo una intensa y aventurera narración ambientada en la Hispanoamérica de la primera mitad del siglo XIX, sino también la única obra que fue adaptada por el propio Conrad para el cine: Gaspar the Strong Man (1920).

Joseph Conrad (1857-1924) was a Polish-British writer known for his tales about the sea, colonialism, and the psychological struggles of individuals facing adversity. His work is characterized by the exploration of themes such as morality, despair, and the absurdity of human existence. Born in Ukraine, Conrad spent much of his life as a sailor before turning to writing, which significantly influenced his narrative style.

Among his most notable works are Heart of Darkness (1899), Lord Jim (1900), and Nostromo (1904). Although he did not receive major awards during his lifetime, his influence on 20th-century literature is undeniable, being considered a precursor of modern narrative.
