Alex Bellos has worked as a reporter for The Guardian, first at the London office and later as a correspondent in Rio de Janeiro. In 2003, he began freelancing for this newspaper, and also for other prestigious dailies such as The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Independent, The Financial Times, The Observer, The Sunday Telegraph, The Sunday Times, The Daily Mail, The Daily Express, The Mirror, and News of the World. Bellos has also published articles in non-English speaking newspapers, such as El País, Libération, or Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, among others.

Based in London, he also works as a broadcaster and his short films have been aired by prestigious networks such as the BBC and Al Jazeera International. His previous books were a biography of Pelé and an essay on football in Brazil.
