Der Band nimmt diese vergessenen Diktaturen vergleichend in den Blick und fragt nach ihren jeweiligen Charakteristika: Wie wurde Herrschaft ausgeubt und legitimiert? Wie endeten die Diktaturen und wie erinnern sich die postdiktatorischen Gesellschaften Sudosteuropas an deren Verbrechen? Anknupfend an die aktuellen, durch Populismus und Euroskeptizismus gepragten Debatten in den drei Landern geht der Band zudem der Frage nach, inwieweit diese Entwicklungen in einem Zusammenhang mit spezifischen Diktaturerfahrungen und Formen der Diktaturuberwindung stehen und vergleicht dies mit scheinbar ahnlichen Entwicklungen in Ostmitteleuropa
