One of Mark Twain’s lesser-known comedic novels, this farcical story employs Twain’s narrative genius and gift of parody while also giving voice to some of his fervent social protests. When young Berkeley, the firstborn son of the Count of Rossmore, discovers that his family stole their title, estate, and fortune generations ago, he travels to America in order to find the rightful Earl of Rossmore, an eccentric man named Mulberry Sellers. Before Berkeley meets Sellers, however, there is a fire at the former's hotel that destroys his documents, forcing him to adopt a new identity and try earning his own living for the first time in his life. The adventures of Berkeley and Sellers culminate in a series of misunderstandings that are both perplexing and hilarious.  Una de las novelas cómicas menos conocidas de Mark Twain, esta historia absurda emplea el genio narrativo de Twain y su don de la parodia además de dar voz a sus fervientes protestas sociales.
