«Son símbolos de mi biografía: la nieve, los bueyes, las montañas, etcétera. Otros tendrían el mar, los cañaverales, el sol, como paisaje de su historia. Pero la mía es ésta, de esta simbología parte lo que digo, y surge lo mismo en prosa que en poesía. Ese título, Memoria de la nieve, resume muy bien no solo la poesía sino toda mi obra. Creo, además, que es una redundancia: la memoria es como la nieve, escribes sobre ella, y mientras escribes se va derritiendo. Es como si siempre escribiera sobre la nieve, no sobre el papel».
