Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Theorie und Ideengeschichte, Universität Bielefeld (Fakultät für Soziologie), Veranstaltung: Liberalismus und Pragmatismus, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die US-amerikanische politische Strömung des Neokonservatismus, deren Programmatik insbesondere im Regierungshandeln der Administrationen von Ronald Reagan und George W. Bush zum Ausdruck kam, scheint durch eine zentrale Ambivalenz gekennzeichnet zu sein: Parallel zu einem liberalen Programm, welches die Ausweitung und das massive Vorantreiben von Demokratie und Freiheit fordert, wird eine Au en- und Sicherheitspolitik betrieben, welche durch ein Freund-Feind-Schema kodiert ist und sich an Grundlagen orientiert, die von den politischen Philosophien Carl Schmitts und Leo Strauss' geprägt sind, bei welchen insbesondere ersterer durch seine dezidiert anti-liberale Argumentation bekannt wurde. Diese Arbeit geht nun der Frage nach, inwieweit diese These der Ambivalenz als zentraler Eigenschaft des Neokonservatismus berechtigt ist und wenn ja, wie sie erklärt werden kann.
