Noah Gordon was born on November 11, 1926 in Worcester, Massachusetts (United States). He attended Boston University to study medicine, as his parents wished, but ultimately ended up studying journalism. In the early 1950s, he began working as an editor in New York at Avon Publishing. His first novel was The Rabbi (1965), an autobiographical text featuring Michael Kind that achieved considerable sales success. Later titles would include The Death Committee (1969), where the medical theme was an essential part of the plot, The Jerusalem Diamond (1979), and his consecration as a best-selling author, The Physician (1986), the first part of the well-known trilogy about the British-origin Cole family that would continue with Shaman (1992) and Dr. Cole (1996). His latest works have been The Last Jew (2000), with action taking place in 15th century Spain and featuring a character named Yonah Toledano, Sam and Other Animal Stories (2002), a book of stories dedicated to children, and The Winery (2007), a novel set in the world of winemaking.
