Dr. James H. Beaty is a distinguished American pediatric orthopedic surgeon and academic, known for his leadership in the field of orthopedic surgery and his contributions to the development of medical education

Graduated in Medicine from the University of Tennessee, Beaty completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the same institution and a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at the A.I. DuPont Institute. Since 1982, he has been a member of the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee, where he specializes in pediatric trauma, childhood fractures, sports injuries, and foot and hip disorders in children

In 2016, he was appointed chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Bioengineering at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), a position he currently holds. Additionally, he has been president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, and the Tennessee Orthopaedic Society

Beaty has edited seven books, including Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics and Fractures in Children, and has published nearly 70 peer-reviewed scientific articles. He has been an associate editor of several specialized journals and has delivered scientific lectures nationally and internationally

His commitment to medical education and research has been crucial for the advancement of pediatric orthopedic surgery in the United States

Dr. Frederick M. Azar is a distinguished orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, based in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the director of the Sports Medicine program at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Bioengineering at the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic and chairman of the medical staff at Campbell Clinic

Azar earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1982 and his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1989. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic in 1994 and a fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1995

He has been the head team physician for the NBA Memphis Grizzlies for over two decades and was recognized as "Physician of the Year" by the National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association in 2012. Additionally, he has provided medical care to teams such as the Memphis Hustle, 901 FC, the University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College, and Christian Brothers High School

Azar has held leadership positions in professional organizations, including the presidency of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the secretary of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is currently the senior director of this board and chairman of the Oral Examinations Committee

In academia, he has been the chief editor of publications such as Orthopaedic Clinics, Campbell’s Orthopaedic Journal, and Illustrated Tips and Tricks in Sports Medicine Surgery. He has also co-edited influential books such as Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics and Campbell’s Core Orthopaedic Procedures
