Agustín Yáñez Delgadillo (1904-1980) was a Mexican writer, essayist, and politician, noted as one of the great innovators of Mexican narrative in the 20th century. He was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and studied Law at the School of Jurisprudence in his hometown. Later, he earned a master's degree in Philosophy and Letters at the UNAM, with a thesis on Justo Sierra that earned him cum laude honors.

His most emblematic work is Al filo del agua (1947), a novel set in a village in Jalisco on the eve of the Mexican Revolution. The work stands out for its innovative narrative technique, which incorporates elements such as interior monologue, influenced by authors like James Joyce and William Faulkner. This novel is considered one of the most important in Mexican literature of the 20th century.

In addition to his literary work, Yáñez had an active political and academic career. He was governor of Jalisco (1953-1959) and Secretary of Public Education (1964-1970), where he implemented significant reforms in the Mexican educational system. He was also a member of the Mexican Academy of Language and El Colegio Nacional.

He died on January 17, 1980, in Mexico City and was buried in the Rotonda de las Personas Ilustres.
