Neben dem klassischen Theorie-Praxis-Antagonismus in der antiken Philosophie steht ein spezifisch alttestamentlich-jüdisches und neutestamentlich-frühchristliches Theorie-Praxis-Verständnis, das Glaube und Liebe sowie Gnade und Tun perichoretisch miteinander verbindet. Die erstmalige Hereinnahme der philosophischen Kategorien von Aktion und Kontemplation in die biblische Welt bei Philon bedeutete keinen Bruch mit der Theorie-Praxis-Einheit von Jahweglauben und Gesetzespraxis, weil es Philon darum ging, seine bereits hellenisierten jüdischen Landsleute zur Torapraxis zurückzuführen. Als sich die frühchristlichen Väter mit dem philosophischen Kontemplationsideal und der theoretischen Ideologie der Gnosis auseinandersetzen mu ten, vermochten sie die biblisch-christliche Theorie-Praxis-Einheit gegen eine praxisvergessene vita contemplativa zu behaupten.
