Synopsis "A Prayer for the Innocent: A Detective Harry Schultz Mystery"

In this dark, captivating mystery, the murder of two boys unveils a centuries-old tradition of torture and an ancient rite that challenges the sanctity of the Catholic church. The year is 1961 in a Minneapolis neighborhood where parents do not lock their doors or worry about their kids roaming freely. But after two boys are murdered months apart, and their bodies posed to bring attention to their brutal wounds, the word is spreading a serial killer may be on the loose. The police department's top detective, Dutch Timmerman is recovering from wounds following a deadly shootout. So, in a race against time to find the killer, rogue detective, Harry Schultz is called upon to investigate, despite being under scrutiny by the police chief and the media for a history of dealing out his own form of justice. Although on medical leave, Dutch offers to help any way he can, and while conducting research at a history library, he discovers some deeply disturbing information pertinent to the case. Meanwhile, Schultz enlists the aid of a network of women called the Party Line Girls who stay in tune with local happenings. Things get dicey when Harry's unusual resource uncovers rumors of impropriety that point to an introverted Catholic priest as the prime suspect.Enter Kveta Cerny, the matriarch of a local crime-family who is an aunt of the priest. Her lover is her enforcer and a ruthless loan-shark who takes pleasure in publicly assaulting past-due debtors. Harry and Dutch witness one of the assaults and apprehend the ruthless collector who escapes their grasp and vows vengeance, no matter what the personal cost.
