Mario Levrero was born in Montevideo in 1940 and died in the same city in 2004. He was a photographer, bookseller, comic scriptwriter and experimental serials writer, humorist, and editor-in-chief of a magazine with an unclassifiable profile. He is the author of the novels La ciudad (1970), Nick Carter se divierte mientras el lector es asesinado y yo agonizo (1975), París (1980), El lugar (1984), La Banda del Ciempiés (1989), Dejen todo en mis manos (1996), El alma de Gardel (1996), El discurso vacío (1996) and La novela luminosa (2005); he also published the storybooks La máquina de pensar en Gladys (1970), Todo el tiempo (1982), Aguas salobres (1983), Los muertos (1986), El portero y el otro (1992), Ya que estamos (2001) and Los carros de fuego (2003); moreover, some of his best journalistic articles are found in Irrupciones I (2000) and Irrupciones II (2001)
