Many African-Americans migrated westward after their emancipation and settled in Oklahoma, which during that time over fifty all-Black towns existed. They were comfortable as the Freedmen dwelt among the Native-Americans referred to by many as Indians. Several intermingled with them and bore children. They took along with them their skills and trades that they had acquired throughout the years because one still had to earn a living. The townspeople made good with their livelihoods as several owned shops and various types of businesses. They desired to live in peace alongside the Indians and Indian Freedmen in Oklahoma.
