He was born on July 5, 1956, in Olivos, Buenos Aires province; he studied at the Escuela Superior de Periodismo –Instituto Grafotécnico–, and upon graduating, he worked as a reporter at the Clarín newspaper. Settled in Bariloche since 1979, Basti dedicated himself to reconstructing the history of the Nazis who arrived in Argentina. In that southern city, he was a correspondent for the newspapers Ámbito Financiero and La Mañana del Sur, and for the news agency DyN (Diarios y Noticias). The author has published the books Bariloche Nazi, Hitler in Argentina, Hitler's Exile, Following Hitler's Steps, Hitler's Secrets, and Hitler in Colombia, along with various essays on the presence in South America of German fugitives who fled Europe at the end of World War II. He has also coordinated expeditions in the South Atlantic aiming to find the sunken hulls of the submarines used by the Nazis to escape. He led the Lost Link expedition which in 2022 found one of these vessels, not reported in the official records, near the beaches of Necochea, a city located in the south of Buenos Aires province.
