José Antonio Pastor Ridruejo

José Antonio Pastor Ridruejo (Zaragoza, 1932) is a Spanish jurist specialized in Public International Law. He graduated and obtained his PhD in Law from the University of Zaragoza, earning a Diploma from the Hague Academy of International Law in 1960. He has served as a professor at the universities of Murcia, Zaragoza, and Complutense of Madrid, where he has been an emeritus professor since 2003. From 1986 to 1998, he was the head of the International Legal Advisory of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Additionally, he represented Spain at the III United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea and was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights between 1998 and 2003.

Among his most notable works are "La protección a la población civil en tiempo de guerra" (1960), "La jurisprudencia del tribunal internacional de La Haya. Sistematización y comentarios" (1962), and "Curso de derecho internacional público y organizaciones internacionales" (25th edition, 2021). These academic genre publications have been fundamental in the study and teaching of international law. Pastor Ridruejo has been awarded the Encomienda de número of the Order of Isabel la Católica and the Grand Cross of the Order of San Raimundo de Peñafort.
