Louise Gluck (Nueva York, 1943), Premio Nobel de Literatura 2020, explora en Vita nova (1999) cuyo titulo recuerda a la obra que Dante escribio tras la muerte de su amada Beatriz la vida posterior al matrimonio y a la perdida del sujeto amoroso. De este modo, la voz poetica es la de un Orfeo que en el umbral se debate entre mirar hacia delante o hacia atras, consciente de que la musica solo es posible si hay un verdadero dolor. La vida nueva a la que canta la poeta supone a la vez un desamparo y una libertad que la impulsan a retrotraerse a su pasado, a la muerte de su madre, al limbo entre la infancia y la vida adulta. Tambien a reflexionar sobre la mezcla de placer y dolor que forma parte de cualquier relacion humana y sobre la naturaleza de un tiempo ciclico en donde la repeticion es tambien renovacion. No exentos de ironia o autoparodia, los poemas de Vita nova abordan las muertes y los comienzos, la resignacion y la esperanza, el trauma y la recuperacion desde una perspectiva unica donde la abstraccion convive con una extraña nitidez biografica a pesar de que dicha biografia sea a menudo una presencia que el lector solo percibe por el rabillo de ojo, y la confesion poetica, como en los mejores libros de Gluck, sea un acto de intimidad a la vez esquivo y cercano, pero siempre iluminador.

Louise Elisabeth Glück was born on April 22, 1943 in New York, United States, into a family of Hungarian Jewish descent. From an early age, she showed an inclination for literature and poetry, influenced by reading and the intellectual environment of her home. Her youth was marked by the struggle against anorexia, an experience she would later address in her work with honesty and depth.

She studied at Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University, although she did not complete a formal degree due to her illness. Despite these facts, she began a literary career that would make her one of the most influential voices in contemporary American poetry.

Her poetry is characterized by precise and sober language, exploring themes such as loss, family, memory, or desire. She was also a distinguished professor, teaching at universities like Yale or Stanford, mentoring new generations of poets.

Among her most important works are "Firstborn", "The Wild Iris", "Vita Nova", or "Faithful and Virtuous Night". She has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1993, National Book Award in 2014, or the Bollingen Prize in 2001.
