Synopsis "The Shoemaker's Holiday"

Shakespeare''s most political and historically significant plays have been collected in a succession of editions, and this Macbeth is no exception. It provides a wealth of new understanding-enhancing materials. When competing editors have looked past the early seventeenth-century context in which the play was created, Jan H. Smith has done so by paying attention to the play''s medieval Scottish setting in a way that no one else has ever done. Readers who are dissatisfied by "decodings" of the play''s purported allusions to early modern English politics and want to learn more will be amply rewarded by Blits'' version. By doing this, it invites readers to explore the play''s historical, political, and psychological relevance in fresh ways.
