Synopsis "The House Across the Lake: A Canadian Psychological Suspense Novel"
Some houses keep secrets. Blackglass Lake keeps entire histories. When Mara Ellison inherits her late aunt Evelyn's house on the shores of Blackglass Lake, Ontario, she expects a quiet new beginning with her husband, Daniel, and their sixteen-year-old daughter, Sophie. Then Mara sees a light in the abandoned house across the lake.Nobody is supposed to live there. What begins with a distant figure and an unexplained light soon becomes something far more disturbing. A single footprint appears inside Mara's home. Three knocks sound from beneath the floor. A hidden passage leads toward the shoreline. Old photographs contain people who should not exist, and official records seem to disagree with the memories of everyone who lived through them.At the centre of it all is the Voss family, who vanished from Blackglass Lake decades earlier. And a boy named Elias whom history insists was never there. As Mara uncovers her aunt's connection to a secret research project buried beneath the lake, the mystery becomes terrifyingly personal. Blackglass is hiding something that can distort time, rewrite history, and erase people from the lives of those who love them.Soon Mara is no longer investigating what happened at the lake. She is trying to understand what happened to her.Because some doors lead into the past. Some lead into the future. And some should never be opened. The House Across the Lake is an atmospheric Canadian psychological suspense novel blending family mystery, buried secrets, speculative science, and a chilling mystery beneath the waters of Blackglass Lake.
