Synopsis "South Texas Mexican Cookbook"

This delightful cookbook is straight from the cocina of a South Texas traditional Mexican home. Don't expect the regular fare of restaurants specializing in "Mexican" food, but if you want a nostalgic trip down memory lane and tidbits to tantalize even the most avid gourmet, try some of Lucy Garza's down-home recipes. You can start the day with her taquitos filled with huevos con chorizo, lunch on pollo con calabaza or fideo con carne. In the afternoon enjoy a short snack with one of mama's meriendas and for the evening meal select from more than one hundred recipes, such as albondigas de camaron. The author, now a homemaking teacher in Falfurrias, grew up in her mama's kitchen and had a patient and loving instructor for her culinary arts. Her recipes were learned at mama's elbow and refined by her own growing interest in cooking. This cookbook is designed to beef up the Mexican heritage of thousands of Texans and to introduce cooks of all backgrounds to the delightful experience of turning the kitchens into Mexican cocinas.
