The church doesn't need fewer leaders. It needs more shepherds.Pastors today are expected to be visionary leaders, gifted communicators, strategic thinkers, counselors, administrators, fundraisers, and organizational leaders. But beneath all those expectations remains a much older and more important calling: "Feed my sheep."Shepherd First is an invitation for pastors and ministry leaders to return to the heart of biblical pastoral ministry.Drawing from more than thirty years of pastoral ministry, Rich Cochran explores ten biblical practices for leading with the heart of Jesus while building churches that are healthy, sustainable, and deeply relational. Rather than offering another leadership formula, Shepherd First challenges pastors to begin with who they are becoming before focusing on what they are building.Through practical teaching, biblical reflection, ministry examples, reflection questions, and shepherding challenges, you'll discover how to: Abide in Christ before leading othersMake prayer your first response instead of your last resortCare for your own soul without guiltTruly know and shepherd your peopleFeed the flock through biblical teaching and discipleshipBuild systems that multiply pastoral careProtect the flock with courage and convictionEquip others to share in the work of shepherdingSend people into God's missionFinish your ministry with faithfulness and joyWhether you pastor a church of 75 or 1,000+, the calling remains the same. Methods may change. Systems may grow. Leadership responsibilities may increase. But pastors are still called to shepherd people.Shepherd First will help you recover that calling and lead with biblical clarity, intentional discipleship, and the heart of Jesus. This isn't another leadership playbook. It's a call to recover the heart of biblical pastoral ministry.
