Richard Scarry (Boston, 1919 – Gstaad, 1994) was an American author and illustrator, famous for his children's books featuring anthropomorphic animals. Throughout his career, he published over 300 titles, selling more than 100 million copies worldwide. His work is characterized by detailed and colorful illustrations that introduce children to basic vocabulary concepts, professions, and everyday life.

Among his most notable works are Best Word Book Ever (1963), What Do People Do All Day? (1968), and Busy, Busy Town, which are part of the series set in the fictional Busytown. His books have been translated into more than 20 languages and adapted into animated series, such as The Busy World of Richard Scarry. In 2012, he was posthumously awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Society of Illustrators of New York.
