Synopsis "Political Leadership and Socio-economic Development In Nigeria"

Political leadership involves managing the affairs of the state to enhance socio-economic development through implementation of policies aimed at provision of public goods and services. The study examined the impact of political leadership on socio-economic development in Akwa Ibom State (AKS) using Human Development Index proxied by human capacity development, healthcare, education, economic growth and standard of living of the people. Democratictransformational leadership theory was adopted, which emphasized citizens' participation, inclusiveness, capacity building, transparency and accountability in public service. Descriptive research and Survey of study population of 32,210 comprising of elected and appointed public officials in selected MDAs with sample size of 379 determined using Krejcie and Morgan table were employed. Simple random and stratified random sampling techniques were used to administer a 19 item questionnaire on the respondents. Simple percentage, Pearson Moment Correlation Co-efficient and tabular form were adopted for data presentation and analysis.
