Synopsis "Madonna in a fur Coat: Echo of Love Through the Ages"

The book tells a moving love story set in the 1920s between Turkey and Germany. It shows that love in all its forms - unrequited, unattainable - is both beautiful and complicated. It proves that love, though often complicated, is the most basic and rewarding human emotion. "Madonna in a Fur Coat" was first published in 1943 and has moved and inspired countless readers ever since. It has become a classic of Turkish literature. The new translation offers a refined and updated rendition of Ali's original work, making it more accessible and enjoyable for modern readers. The prose is elegant, the characters are nuanced, and the story is as relevant today as when it was written. This new translation allows readers to experience Sabahattin Ali's exquisite prose and vivid characterisation like never before. It is a novel that captures the imagination, stirs the emotions and reminds us of the transformative power of love.

Sabahattin Ali (1907-1948) was a prominent Turkish novelist, poet, and journalist, considered a pioneer of modern Turkish literature. Born in a region of the Ottoman Empire that today belongs to Bulgaria, he was educated in Turkey and Germany, and worked as a German teacher in high schools. His work is characterized by a deep exploration of Turkish society and a subtle critique of the political structures of his time.

Among his most recognized novels are "Madonna in a Fur Coat" (1943) and "Yusuf of the Village" (1937), both belonging to the genre of realistic novel. Additionally, he published several collections of stories, such as "The Mill" (1935) and "Ox Cart" (1936). His political commitment and his criticisms of Kemal Atatürk's government led to his imprisonment on two occasions, and his works were banned until 1965.
