Consumido por una enfermedad tenaz, y agradavadas las dificultades financieras que siempre lo habían acosado y que ensombrecieron su vejez, Stoker publicó La madriguera del Gusano Blanco en 1911, a los 64 años. Sería su última novela. El celebrado autor de Drácula moriría en 1912, pocos días después del hundimiento del Titanic. El villano de esta peculiar novela iniciática, escrita al parecer bajo el influjo de las drogas, es una gigantesca y primitiva entidad serpentiforme, que vive en un hediondo pozo a mil pies de profundidad en el antiguo emplazamiento de un templo pagano con claras reminiscencias de Machen (yuxtaposición de supersticiones druidas, britanas, y romanas). Pero esta singular criatura primigenia, que espera pacientemente completar su ancestral tarea destructiva, adopta la forma humana de la sinuosa y bella Lady Arabella, capaz de devorar hombres y fortunas con idéntica frialdad. El tema de la mujer demonio se desdobla así en el de la supervivencia del gran gusano prehistórico, una supervivencia verdaderamente monstruosa porque elimina la noción de tiempo, haciendo que todo sea posible, que todo se convierta en pesadilla. Lady Arabella es al mismo tiempo la Mujer y el Dragón del Apocalipsis, Eva y la Serpiente, y para que no haya dudas su principal antagonista se llama apropiadamente Adam. La intrincada y divertida trama (que incluye cuatro o cinco historias bastante independientes entre sí y apenas desarrolladas), está plagada de símbolos sexuales y de una retorcida imaginería del más genuino surrealismo gótico, que no en vano atrajo al desmedido cineasta británico Ken Russell, cuya despendolada adaptación cinematográfica superó con creces sus mayores excesos y sus más gratuitas extravagancias fílmicas.

Abraham "Bram" Stoker (Clontarf; November 8, 1847-London; April 20, 1912) was an Irish novelist and writer, known for his novel Dracula

His early horror stories, such as "The Crystal Cup" (1872), were published by the London Society, and The Chain of Destiny in the Shamrock magazine. In 1876, while working as a civil servant, he wrote a textbook named The Duties of Clerks of Petty Sessions in Ireland (1879), this book was used as a reference for a long time

Being a theater critic for the Dublin Evening Mail, co-owned by the famous Gothic novelist Sheridan Le Fanu, one of the most important of his time for stories like Carmilla, about a vampire, greatly influenced Stoker when writing Dracula. Stoker's critique of the play was high praise for the performance in Hamlet by actor Henry Irving, who hired him to be his personal secretary and manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London

While working for Irving, he was a literary critic for the Daily Telegraph and wrote several novels like The Snake's Pass (1890) and Dracula (1897) and, after Irving's death in 1905, The Lady of the Shroud (1909) and The Lair of the White Worm (1911)

His wife was the administrator of his literary estate, and she made known works such as what would be the introduction to Dracula, the short story Dracula's Guest
