Die zwischenmenschlichen Interaktionen im Irak, die aus der Perspektive der Linguistik und Soziologie untersucht werden, sind stark von Konflikten und Identitätsverschiebungen beeinflusst, die die Kommunikation im Land beeinträchtigen. Die ethnische, religiöse und sprachliche Vielfalt - darunter Araber, Kurden, Turkmenen, Assyrer und andere - war im Laufe der Geschichte ein Schlüsselelement für den kulturellen Reichtum, aber auch für erhebliche Spaltungen. Infolge von Invasionen, Kriegen und politischen Krisen haben subnationale Identitäten an Stärke gewonnen, was die nationale Identität schwächt und den Dialog zwischen den verschiedenen Gemeinschaften erschwert. Die Kommunikation im Irak ist gefährdet, wenn kulturelle, ethnische oder sprachliche Unterschiede zu Gründen für Ausgrenzung werden und nicht zu Möglichkeiten der Begegnung.
