Synopsis "ERROR 404 - SOUL NOT FOUND"

Error 404: Soul Not Found by William James Veitch is a self-help/philosophical memoir written in a sharp, witty voice that blends personal narrative with spiritual insight and dry humour. The book opens with the author's real-life catalyst - blacking out at 110 km/h near Alexandria in the Eastern Cape and walking away from a total vehicle wreck without a scratch - which he frames as the universe's dramatic intervention to jolt him off autopilot. From there, across six chapters, Veitch builds a consistent metaphor: the human brain as a biological radio receiver, perpetually tuned to the wrong frequency - a local station of ego, anxiety, habit, and numbing substances - when it could be receiving the "Universal Consciousness" broadcast instead. Each chapter peels back a layer: Chapter 1-2 explore consciousness, intuition, and breaking free from the ego's gripChapter 3 tackles substance use as "chemical static" blocking authentic self-awarenessChapter 4 is a survival guide for navigating a world still asleep - with compassion rather than preachinessChapter 5 champions creative expression as a moral imperative for the awakened selfChapter 6 addresses purpose and individuality within the larger human tapestryThe tone is the book's real strength - irreverent, self-deprecating, and laugh-out-loud funny at times, while drawing genuinely on Rumi, Jung, Lao Tzu, Eckhart Tolle, and even Dr. Seuss to make its philosophical points land accessibly.
