Das Ziel dieses Buches ist es, die Pflanzenart Mentha piperata L.und ihr ätherisches Öl aufgrund ihrer Moleküle von unterschiedlichem Interesse aufzuwerten. Dabei wurden drei Achsen in Angriff genommen. Die erste Achse bezieht sich auf die bibliografische Übersicht über die vielfältigen Interessen und die chemische Zusammensetzung des ätherischen Öls von Mentha piperata. Die zweite Achse ist auf die Bestimmung der chemischen Zusammensetzung des Öls von Mentha piperata ausgerichtet. Die Analyse mittels Gaschromatographie (GC) und Gaschromatographie-Massenspektrometrie-Kopplung (GC/MS) ergab, dass Menthol (41,81 %), Menthylacetat (36,92 %) und Menthon (5,12 %) die Hauptbestandteile dieses Extrakts sind. Der dritte Schwerpunkt betrifft die selektive Umwandlung von Menthon aus dem ätherischen Öl von Mentha piperata in Hydrazon, dessen Wellenlänge beim Absorptionsmaximum durch spektrophotometrische Analyse im UV-visuellen Bereich 356 nm beträgt.
