Renato Garin González
He is a third-tier academic at the School of Law, University of Chile. He grew up in Melipilla, where he attended Marambio school. In 2004, he entered law school, graduating with highest honors. In 2007, he received the Juridical Editorial Award. Later, he pursued a master's in press at the Pontifical Catholic University where he developed a thesis on lobby regulation. In 2012, the Fulbright Commission awarded him a scholarship to pursue a postgraduate degree in Legal Theory at New York University (NYU). After graduating in the United States, he was accepted at the University of Oxford where he pursued his third master's degree. In 2015, he received the Oxford Law Faculty Prize. In 2017, he was a finalist for the Excellence in Journalism Award, in the category of best opinion column.
In 2018, he was elected Deputy of the Republic, representing the provinces of Maipo, Melipilla, and Talagante. In 2021, he resigned from his position to run for the Constitutional Convention. He was elected with double the votes. Within the constituent assembly, he joined the committees on Political System and Popular Participation.
He is the author of the successful trilogy of books The Fierce Lobby (Catalonia, 2016), The Fronda (Catalonia, 2017), and The Great Collusion (Catalonia, 2019). There, the central knots that led to the social outbreak and subsequent political crisis are explained.
