Gueorgui Gospodinov
Georgi Gospodinov (Yambol, Bulgaria; 1968) is an author of poetry, narrative, and essays, internationally recognized for his fragmentary and reflective style. In May 2025, The Gardener and Death, a short elegiac novel that narrates filial mourning as his father was dying, was published, a genre that we could place between intimate fiction and literary memory, translated into Spanish by María Vútova and published by Impedimenta. The author has been awarded the prestigious International Booker Prize (2023) and the European Strega Prize (2021), consolidating his position as one of the most suggestive narrative voices in post-communist Europe.

Although The Gardener and Death has not received notable individual awards, the text has been praised by critics as a "wonderful elegy" and has had a significant cultural impact, especially for its subtle and poetic treatment of pain and death. With more than fifteen works published—including Physics of Sadness and The Tempestalities—Gospodinov expands his legacy with this intimate and deeply personal work, reaffirming his mastery in exploring memory and mourning.
