(Colombia, 1889 - New York, 1928). Master and PhD in Law from the National University of Bogotá in 1917. He served as a deputy and government inspector in the oil fields and the border delimitation commission between his country and Venezuela. His work with the jungle inspired him in the creation of his works, among them the most recognized La Vorágine, which makes Rivera a classic of pre-magical realist narrative, to the point of being considered by many as the great novel of the Latin American jungle. He also published the book of sonnets Tierra de promisión.
